Play NJ reached out to Tipicco last week and uncovered some launch plan details. The company said it is preparing for a fall 2020 launch via a partnership with Ocean Casino Resort.

The deal is pending regulatory approval from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement.

The game plan is “ideally timed” with the start of NFL betting in NJ.

As far as picking New Jersey for its US debut, Tipico credits the state’s hot mobile sports wagering market.

The company provided the following explanation:

“New Jersey is the perfect state for Tipico to kick-start its business in the US because of its sophisticated mobile sports betting audience and mature regulatory and licensing environment.”

More than $3.8 billion of the 2019 sports betting handle of $4.6 billion came via NJ sports betting apps.

On a side note, Tipico plans to launch an online casino, too.

According to its website, Tipico is the leading sports betting operator in Germany. Besides having an app, the company has more than 1,200 betting shops. The business group headquarters are located in Malta.

Adrian Vella, managing director, US business, spoke briefly about the technology NJ customers can look forward to seeing.

“With nearly 15 years of European sportsbook experience, Tipico is one of the few on the B2C side of the industry using our own proprietary technology,” said Vella.

“We are excited to debut the new product our hardworking developers have put together in the US market.”

At the same time, the company is expanding its US team. It has added 12 employees since December in a “variety of operational roles.”

One of the new hires is Stephen Krumbolz, who is the head of business development and strategy.

“Steve brings a wealth of sports, fantasy and iGaming knowledge to Tipico, and we’re excited to have him on board as we explore partnerships, new business and market access opportunities throughout North America,” said Vella.

Since opening in late June 2018, Ocean Casino has yet to make its mark in the NJ online gambling sphere.

That doesn’t mean the company is ignoring it. The plans, however, are coming together behind the scenes.

On the sports betting side of things, Ocean has a partnership with William Hill US. The company also runs Ocean’s retail operation. Atlantic City casinos are permitted up to three online sports betting skins. This means there is room for one more after Tipico.

Being closed for 100-plus days has given Ocean some time to reevaluate its approach to iGaming. We now know part of those plans include working with Tipico in the very near future.
